On March 23, 2025, the ASCO Diagnostic Centre in Muvattupuzha marked its 8th anniversary by organizing a free medical camp, reaffirming its commitment to community health. This event brought together medical professionals across various specialties, offering free consultations and diagnostic tests to the public.
A Community-Centric Initiative
The camp saw an overwhelming response from patients who sought expert medical advice for conditions ranging from common ailments to complex diseases. Services included ENT, head and neck oncology, general medicine, and laboratory screenings. ASCO also introduced a special anniversary health package, ensuring affordable access to essential tests like fasting blood sugar, lipid profile, liver and kidney function tests, and complete blood counts.

My Experience at the Asco Health Camp
As an ENT and Head and Neck Oncosurgeon, I had the opportunity to consult numerous patients, many of whom had long-standing symptoms that had gone undiagnosed due to lack of access to specialized care. A significant number of cases were related to chronic nasal obstruction, snoring, and potential sleep apnea, reinforcing the need for better awareness and early intervention in sleep-related disorders.
One particularly striking case was a patient in his mid-40s, who came in with persistent throat discomfort and voice changes. Upon evaluation, his symptoms pointed toward laryngeal pathology, emphasizing the importance of early ENT screening in preventing serious conditions. His case was referred for further investigation and timely management.
Another case involved a young individual with undiagnosed allergic rhinitis, affecting his daily life and sleep. After a detailed consultation, he was relieved to understand that simple lifestyle modifications and targeted treatment could significantly improve his condition.
Bridging the Gap in Healthcare
Events like these highlight the growing demand for specialized care in semi-urban regions like Muvattupuzha. Many patients who attended the camp had never undergone basic health check-ups, emphasizing the need for regular screenings to prevent avoidable complications.
I also had insightful discussions with fellow doctors, including Dr. Anil K. Nair and Dr. Faisal Pareed, about the evolving landscape of head and neck oncology and sleep medicine. Our collective experience underscored the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration to enhance patient outcomes.

Asco Health Camp: A Step Forward in Community Health
The ASCO medical camp was more than just a health check-up initiative—it was a testament to the power of accessible healthcare. Seeing patients walk away with better awareness, reassurance, and actionable treatment plans was incredibly fulfilling.
As healthcare professionals, it’s our responsibility to extend expertise beyond hospital walls, ensuring that quality medical care reaches those who need it most. I look forward to participating in more such initiatives that bridge the gap between medical advancements and community well-being.
