Bridging Specialties: My Academic Journey in July & August 2025

As a faculty for Scarless Thyroidectomy Talk at IMA Thodupuzha on 09th July 2025

The past two months have been truly enriching, with opportunities to learn, teach, and collaborate across specialties. From local medical meetings to national conferences, July and August 2025 were filled with moments of gratitude, growth, and meaningful academic exchanges.

IMA Thodupuzha Monthly Meet (9th July 2025)

I had the privilege of delivering a talk on “Invisible Incisions: The Art of Scarless Thyroidectomy”, focusing on the Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy Vestibular Approach (TOETVA).

This session was an opportunity to share how minimally invasive techniques can revolutionize thyroid surgery by eliminating visible neck scars, thereby enhancing both functional and cosmetic outcomes. The interactive discussion with fellow doctors at IMA Thodupuzha highlighted the growing interest in advanced endoscopic techniques even in tier-3 towns, which is deeply encouraging.

LADDU 2025 – Radiology Update CME, Kochi (13th July 2025)

I had the honor of serving as a Chairperson at LADDU 2025, a one-day CME on radiology organized by AOI Kochi & CSOM at IMA House, Kochi.

What made this moment deeply personal was the privilege of chairing a session with my teacher who first introduced me to the basics of ENT, for a talk delivered by another one of my own ENT teachers.
It was an overwhelming and humbling experience, reminding me how much of my journey has been shaped by the wisdom and generosity of my mentors.

11th National Conference on Obstructive Sleep Apnea & Sleep Surgery – Amritsar (1st–3rd August 2025)

I had the honor of serving as faculty for two scientific sessions at the prestigious national OSA conference:

  • Polysomnography Master Class
  • Intracapsular Tonsillectomy – Surgical Demonstration

Representing my work from Muvattupuzha and Thodupuzha on such a global platform was both humbling and inspiring.

Talk for Dental Doctors – BMH Thodupuzha (4th August 2025)

I was invited to deliver a session for over 40 dental doctors from Thodupuzha, focusing on the importance of airway evaluation before dental bracing. The enthusiastic participation and interactive discussions reinforced how vital it is to integrate airway health into routine dental care.

Fellowship Program – Annoor Dental College, Bangalore (23rd August 2025)

As part of the Fellowship in Myofunctional Therapy by the Manipal University College, I addressed a group of 20 young dentists undergoing advanced training.

My talk emphasized the teamwork between ENT specialists and dental professionals in managing pediatric patients with mouth breathing and related disorders. This collaborative spirit is key to improving long-term outcomes for children.

The OSA Conference 2025, organized by the Kochi Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, was an inspiring gathering that brought together experts from ENT, oral and maxillofacial surgery, dentistry, and allied specialties.

I had the privilege of serving as faculty, presenting alongside my ENT colleagues on the multidisciplinary management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Our session emphasized that OSA is not just a surgical or medical issue — it is a multifactorial disorder requiring collaborative input.

Key discussion points included:

  • The critical role of oral and maxillofacial surgeons in addressing skeletal and dental contributions to airway collapse.
  • How ENT surgeons contribute through nasal, pharyngeal, and laryngeal evaluation and surgical interventions.
  • The value of dental specialists and orthodontists in guiding airway-friendly growth in children.
  • The need for team-based care involving sleep physicians, pulmonologists, and speech/myofunctional therapists.

The lively Q&A session highlighted a strong interest among young surgeons in building interdisciplinary OSA clinics, which reassures me that the future of OSA care in India is moving toward holistic, patient-centered models.

Participating in this conference reaffirmed my belief that the best outcomes for OSA patients are achieved when we bring our strengths together as a team.

Reflections

From sharing advanced surgical techniques in IMA Thodupuzha to chairing LADDU 2025 with my teachers, and from faculty engagements in Amritsar and Kochi to interactive talks with dental colleagues, the months of July and August were a celebration of knowledge, mentorship, and collaboration.

They reinforced a simple but powerful truth: the best outcomes for patients come when knowledge is shared and specialties unite.

I remain grateful to my teachers, colleagues, and peers for their encouragement, and I look forward to continuing this journey of academic exploration and teamwork.
